That distant girl
craved my comfort with
tired eyes and forlorn arms as I
entered the party around
3am to a needy hug

Surprised my
expectations became
tangled in her web to be
quickly subdued and
consumed by that
patient spider

Awkward years ago
our benign friendship
over steered spinning
out of control, yet in
previous laps of
soiled linen
never had that
tempered nail exposed
such vulnerability

A moment of weakness
that would have been
little more than
a glance across
a crowded room
in the presence of
her husband

a moment of weakness, I know it.
you sprinkle metaphor and expressions well.
If it's round it's a burger,
square it's a fish.

Wow! Paul. So much covered and uncovered in a lifetime with words.
